Can you help me identify this organism?

I was fishing in a small pond when i came across a twig at the bottom of the pond, i lifted it up and i saw a large, what i thought to be, an egg sack,but when i cut it open, it was jjust a clear jelly like substance. it was kind of hard. on the outside was brown with the same pattern repeated over and over. it was attached to the twig.... we tried to look it up but we couldn't seem to find what it was. does anybody know?
