How to Add Channels?

hello i am aboard and missing my home channels. But i have found out that i could see some channels. They have their satellite parameters available for free. But i dont know how to make them viewabe. Do i have to talk with cable operator or can get a software to watch it online after inputing the parameters. Please help me out.
